Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, multiplying the odds.
- Asian Handicap
- A spread betting type that gives a virtual advantage or disadvantage to teams to level the playing field.
- Back Bet
- A conventional bet that an outcome will happen, placed on a betting exchange or sportsbook.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money you have set aside for betting, separate from everyday finances.
- Betting Exchange
- A platform where bettors can back and lay against each other, often with lower commission than traditional bookmakers.
- Both Teams To Score
- A bet that wins if each team scores at least one goal during the match, regardless of the final result.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Decimal Odds
- A way of expressing odds as a single decimal number that includes the return of the stake; used to easily calculate potential payouts.
- Deposit Limit
- A cap you set on how much money you can deposit into your betting account within a specified time period.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes of a match, increasing your chance of winning.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet that returns your stake if the match ends in a draw; you win only if your chosen team wins.
- Edge
- Your perceived statistical advantage over the bookmaker’s odds in a given wager.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds shown as a fraction, such as 5/1, indicating how much profit you make relative to your stake.
- Free Bet
- A promotional credit given by a sportsbook that can be used to place a bet, usually without needing to stake your own money.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is currently being played, with odds that update as the action unfolds.
- Know Your Customer
- The process of verifying your identity and age to comply with regulations and prevent fraudulent activity.
- Lay Bet
- A bet that an outcome will NOT happen, offered on betting exchanges; you profit if the selection fails.
- Match Odds
- The odds offered for the three possible outcomes of a soccer match: home win, draw, or away win.
- Outright Winner
- A bet on which team will win a tournament, league, or competition after all matches are finished.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be more or less than a set figure.
- Responsible Gambling
- Practices and tools designed to help you gamble safely, such as setting limits, taking breaks, and seeking help if needed.
- Self-Exclusion
- A formal option to block yourself from betting for a set duration, helping you control gambling habits.
- Stake
- The amount of money you wager on a single bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving you an expected advantage.
- Wagering Requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings derived from it.
